There are many reasons why mice enjoy Christmas so much. The biggest, by far, is FOOD. During Christmas our homes are filled to the brim with food. We’re constantly cooking, having parties and guests over, and eating until we cannot move. Mice love this because it means they can scavenge far more food than usual. It also means that dustbins and cupboards and filled up with food for them to steal. Not only that, we often leave piles and dirty dishes in the sink. This gives mice another place where they can find tasty food.

And speaking of tasty, the food we eat at Christmas is different to what we eat the rest of the year. This is the time when we tuck into delicious and rich foods. This includes things like hams and other meats, biscuits, sweets and other scrumptious treats. Mice enjoy Christmas because it means they can partake in these treats.

Mice enjoy Christmas presents

Another reason why they love Christmas is because of presents and our Christmas trees. This doesn’t mean that mice receive presents or anything like that. No, mice love presents because it means they can steal materials for their nests. All of that wrapping paper, cardboard, string and ribbon makes the perfect items for their nests.

They also love to interfere with the presents and your Christmas tree. If you have Christmas tree lights, then mice may end up chewing on the wires. This could also happen if you’re giving away electronic presents. This is especially true if you’re giving things like sweets and biscuits. They may start out wrapped beautifully, but end up chewed and ruined.

Another reason why mice enjoy Christmas is because humans are often away. Many people go overseas, or visit family during Christmas time. This gives mice the run of the house. They can come out of their hiding places and move about freely. This can become a huge problem if you’ve left something behind which attracts these mice, and this is the time to call in professional help. For example, you may have left boxes of chocolates out. Obviously, this will attract all types of pests, which is why it’s so important that you leave nothing out.
