At What Point Do You Consider Squirrels Pests?

Are squirrels pests? Most of us would disagree. After all, people love when these cute animals come into their gardens. That being said, squirrels can quickly turns into pests that are as bad as rats or mice. There are several ways in which this can happen. For example:

Are squirrels pests in all circumstances?

The point at which squirrels turn into pests is when they begin to interfere with your life. This happens when:

a.) They steal fruit and vegetables you are growing. Or dig up bulbs.

b.) They steal food out of your bird feeder.

c.) They get into your roof, build their nests and cause damage.

If any of this happens, you’ll begin to consider squirrels pests. So what can you do about this problem? One of the easiest solutions that works well is motion sensor sprinklers.

If squirrels are going after your bulbs then simply plant them deeper. Squirrels love bulbs, but they’re also lazy. Plant your bulbs at least 8 inches deep and the squirrels won’t bother going after them.

If you have vegetables, then these can be covered up with wire mesh because squirrels cause damage. Fruit on trees should be picked as soon as possible. Something you should also do is keep your garbage bin tightly secured and frequently emptied. This helps to prevent squirrels, rats, and other issues like foxes.

Other reasons why people hate squirrels

One of these reasons is because they eat from bird feeders, reaching them by jumping and climbing high. You can stop this by placing a baffle around your bird feeder. Weirdly, slinky toys can also deter squirrels. Attach this toy to the bottom of your bird feeder. When the squirrel grabs hold of it, the toy stretches and the squirrel falls to the ground. You may also want to consider getting a hanging bird feeder. Hang this with the thinnest rope possible to prevent squirrels from climbing down.

Keeping squirrels out of your roof can also be relatively straight forward. These pests get into the roof in one of two ways. First, they climb up drain pipes. You can stop this by covering the mouth of your drain pipes with wire mesh. Two, they use overhanging trees branches to jump onto your roof. This problem is easily solved by trimming back your trees branches to deter squirrels from your garden.

Failing this, pest control for squirrels is available humanely at a reasonable cost from your reliable local pest control company.
